Rays 2, Angels 0: At St. Petersburg, Fla., James Shields pitched a one-hitter and Evan Longoria’s two-run, ninth-inning homer snapped a scoreless tie and gave Tampa Bay a victory over Los Angeles. Shields rebounded from the second-shortest outing of his career to post his second shutout in his past three starts.
Indians 6, Blue Jays 1: At Cleveland, Casey Blake and Ben Francisco hit two-run doubles in a six-run seventh inning to help C.C. Sabathia and the Indians defeat Roy Halladay and Toronto in a duel of Cy Young Award winners.
Tigers 6, Yankees 5: At Detroit, Kenny Rogers pitched into the seventh inning and Ivan Rodriguez had three hits and drove in a pair of runs to help the Tigers beat New York. The Tigers’ completed their first sweep of at least three games at Yankee Stadium since 1966.
Rangers 4, Athletics 0: At Arlington, Texas, Scott Feldman and three relievers combined for Texas’ third consecutive shutout and Brandon Boggs drove in three runs to help the Rangers beat Oakland. Boggs recovered from an early hard crash into the wall to go 3 for 4 with a homer as Texas ended the A’s four-game winning streak.
Orioles 7, Royals 4: At Kansas City, Mo., Aubrey Huff and Melvin Mora homered off Gil Meche, Steve Trachsel earned his first victory since April 4 and Baltimore recorded its 11th consecutive victory over Kansas City.
Twins 7, Red Sox 6: At Minneapolis, Mike Lamb hit a two-run single in the ninth inning against Jonathan Papelbon, who blew a save for the second night in a row, as Minnesota earned the victory over Boston.
