Royals 9, Marlins 3: At Miami, Jose Guillen homered and drove in four runs to help Kansas City beat the Marlins. Guillen hit a two-run double in the first inning and a two-run homer in the seventh. The left fielder also threw out a runner at the plate.

Reds 6, Indians 4: At Cincinnati, Adam Dunn homered for the fourth straight game, leading the Reds to a three-game sweep of Cleveland. Cliff Lee gave up 10 hits and six runs (five earned) in only 52/3 innings, more runs than his seven previous starts combined.

Braves 5, Athletics 2: At Atlanta, Jo-Jo Reyes and four relievers led Atlanta over Oakland. The A’s had at least one baserunner in every inning but left runners stranded at third in the second, sixth, seventh and eighth, and were 1 for 12 with runners in scoring position.

Red Sox 11, Brewers 7: At Boston, David Ortiz homered twice and drove in four runs as the Red Sox outslugged Milwaukee to complete a sweep. Boston improved to 31-8 since 2006 in interleague games, 18-3 at Fenway Park.

Blue Jays 6, Phillies 5: At Philadelphia, Lyle Overbay’s three-run pinch-hit homer and Shannon Stewart’s two-run double helped Toronto beat the Phillies in a game delayed twice by rain. After a second delay, Toronto ace Roy Halladay made his first relief appearance since July 22, 2001.

Nationals 2, Orioles 1: At Baltimore, rookie John Lannan took a three-hitter into the eighth inning, Cristian Guzman homered, and Washington beat the Orioles. The Nationals had their first winning road trip (4-3) of at least seven games since last June.

Cardinals 5, Rays 4: At St. Louis, Skip Schumaker doubled with one out in the ninth to drive in the winning run and cap the Cardinals’ rally from a three-run deficit over Tampa Bay. It was the second straight walk-off victory for St. Louis.

Rockies 6, Twins 2: At Denver, Jeff Francis won for the first time this season and Todd Helton homered and drove in three runs, helping Colorado beat Minnesota in the rubber match of their three-game series.

Astros 5, Rangers 4: At Arlington, Texas, Miguel Tejada had three hits and Houston beat Texas. Brandon Backe (3-5) didn’t give up a run until allowing homers to Milton Bradley and David Murphy in the seventh. The Rangers have won their last seven series for the first time since 1999.

Angels 10, Dodgers 2: At Anaheim, Calif., Mike Napoli homered twice and drove in a career-high five runs to power the Angels over the Dodgers. The Angels took two of three in the “Freeway Series.”

White Sox 13, Giants 8: At San Francisco, Nick Swisher hit a tiebreaking three-run double in the eighth as a pinch-hitter, lifting Chicago over the Giants for their fifth straight win and eighth win in 11 games.

Diamondbacks 4, Tigers 0: At Phoenix, Randy Johnson pitched seven scoreless innings for his 288th career victory, and Arizona beat Detroit.

Mets 11, Yankees 2: Oliver Perez shut down the slumping Yankees, Jose Reyes homered for the second consecutive game and the Mets cruised to a rout. The Mets beat Chien-Ming Wang and won a series at Yankee Stadium for only the second time since interleague play began in 1997.

National League result

Cubs 4, Pirates 3: At Chicago, Pittsburgh’s Phil Dumatrait walked seven batters and Reed Johnson hit a sacrifice fly that put the Cubs ahead for good in their win over the Pirates. The Cubs have taken eight of the nine meetings with the Pirates this season.
