Lee knocks off LCSC

Chris Warters belted a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to lead top-seeded Lee University to a 5-2 victory over the third-seeded Lewis-Clark State Warriors in the NAIA World Series at Harris Field in Lewiston on Tuesday night.

Dallas Sims (10-1) held the Warriors (55-7) to four hits and one earned run over six innings to pick up the win. Pablo Lopez tossed three shutout innings to earn his 12th save for Lee (62-8).

Ryan Woods (8-2) took the loss for the Warriors, allowing three runs in six innings of work.

To win its third straight title, LCSC must win three straight games, beginning with today’s loser-out game against Spring Arbor at 3 p.m. Lee and second-seeded Oklahoma City square off at 7 p.m.

•Mike Rivera’s solo home run in the top of the 12th inning sparked the Warriors to a 9-5 win over Oklahoma City on Monday.

Rowing

The Gonzaga University men’s rowing program received two bids to the IRA National Championships as qualifiers were announced by the competition committee Sunday.

Gonzaga will enter a Varsity 8+ and Freshman 8+ in this year’s races set for June 5-7 at Cooper River in Camden, N.J.

Journalist camp

Twelve students from (entering) grades 6-12 will be selected to attend a week-long day camp at The Spokesman-Review.

The journalism camp will be sponsored by the Vox, the student publication published by The Spokesman-Review, and will be an opportunity for students to become familiar with the field of journalism.

Students selected will receive instruction in news writing, journalism ethics, reporting, photojournalism and editing. One goal of the week-long project will be to produce a package of pages to be published in the Spokesman-Review.

Camp will be at the downtown Spokesman-Review building, August 11-15, from 9:30 to 4 p.m. Lunch and snacks will be provided and there is no charge for participants.

All participants will receive certificates of completion and work alongside professionals from the Spokesman-Review as well as be mentored by members of the Vox.

Men’s basketball

John Clark, a 6-foot-10 post player from Cochise Junior College in Douglas, Ariz., has signed a letter of intent to play at Eastern Washington University.

Clark averaged 9.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game last season.
