Cougars, Huskies scoreless
Cross-state rivals Washington and Washington State, a pair of nationally ranked Pacific-10 Conference women’s soccer teams, played to a 0-0 tie in Pullman on Friday afternoon.
Following a defensive-minded first half in which neither team generated many quality scoring chances, both the 21st-ranked Huskies (12-5-1, 3-3-1 Pac-10) and 22nd-ranked Cougars turned offensive in the second. But neither team could score, thanks to the stingy goalkeeping of UW’s Kari Davidson, who made six saves, and WSU’s Lindsay Parlee, who made five.
The Cougars had the match’s final scoring chance, but they came up empty when Davidson made a spectacular save on Ashley Johnson’s header off a free kick 4 minutes into the second overtime.
•Senior Lauryn Koelzer scored her school-record seventh goal of the season and teammate Whitney Brannan produced the winner in overtime as Eastern Washington (4-11-3, 2-4-1 Big Sky Conference) closed its season by edging visiting Montana (6-10-2, 3-3-1) 3-2. The Eagles got their other goal from Brittany Sparks, who also had an assist.
•Idaho (1-15-2, 0-5-1 Western Athletic Conference) gave up an early goal to San Jose State’s Amanda Martin and couldn’t recover as the visiting Spartans (5-9-4, 2-3-1) posted a 1-0 win at Guy Wicks Field.
•Courtney Peacock and Caitlyn Salo each scored second-half goals for Gonzaga (7-10-2, 2-4-0 West Coast Conference), but the Bulldogs’ late rally came up short as 14th-ranked San Diego (14-3-2, 6-0-0) squeezed out a 3-2 win in GU’s final home match of the season.
•Cori Jo Young and Patty Duncan each scored a pair of goals to lift Community Colleges of Spokane (4-13-3, 3-12-3) to a 5-1 NWAACC victory over Wenatchee Valley (5-9-3, 5-9-3) at SFCC.

WSU (7-14, 0-10) got a combined 28 kills from Brittany Johnson and Brittany Tillman but failed in an attempt to pick up its first league win.
•In Stanford, Calif., Washington’s Kindra Carlson had 12 kills but couldn’t prevent the sixth-ranked Huskies (16-4, 7-3) from dropping a 25-22, 25-23, 25-18 decision to the fifth-ranked Cardinal (18-3, 9-1).
•In Tacoma, Lindsey Denman finished with 12 kills and nine digs in leading 18th-ranked Puget Sound (15-6, 10-3) to a 3-0 Northwest Conference win over Whitworth (13-12, 6-7), which got seven kills each from Nikki Bardwell and Ka’ipo Rocha.
