Smith aghast at public outcry
Note to Kevin Smith: Du-uh!
Turns out the movie director is upset. He’s confused. Shocked even.
To quote Variety, he’s “flabbergasted.”
And why? Because the ads for his new film, “Zack and Miri Make a Porno,” which opens today and stars Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks, are being banned in some markets because of the last word in the film’s title.
“I can’t believe this is happening in the 21st century,” Smith says. “When was the last time you saw a porno with the word ‘porno’ in the title?”
Gawker.com speculates that the film’s box-office take may be ruined by such a setback. Double du-uh.
Yo, Kev. Who didn’t see this comin’?
Movies go even more graphic
Comics continue to take over the big screen. Now comes word that Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s “Preacher,” the religio-metaphysical-moral graphic novel about a preacher who takes on Evil, is being made into a movie. Set to direct is Sam Mendes, who already adapted Max Allan Collins and Richard Piers Rayner’s “Road to Perdition” into a 2002 film starring Tom Hanks and Daniel Craig.
Lookin’ for another Anna Nicole
One airhead model/actress wasn’t enough for Larry Birkhead. Seems like he’s looking for another. But this time he has more of a reason: He wants to give his love-child a playmate. Birkhead, who is raising 2-year-old Dannielynn, the baby he made with Anna Nicole Smith, says, “I want to have another child.” He admits, “It would be tough for me to do right now, but in a couple of years, definitely.”
New tenant for the Tardis
Bookmakers have Robert Carlyle the favorite to become the new “Dr. Who” when David Tennant leaves the show after the fourth season ends next year. Writer/producer Russell T. Davies will leave as well.
Tennant, who is receiving raves for his “Hamlet” for the Royal Shakespeare Company, took over the role when Christopher Eccleston quit the show after one season.
He’s rockin’ for the right
Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has thrown his rocker support behind Sen. John McCain. “We pretty much stay out of it,” he said. “But seeing so many people come out for (Barack) Obama, I just felt like, ‘What the (heck), I might as well raise my hand for this side.’ ”
Also, spend a lot of money
Ever wonder why Gwyneth Paltrow looks so luminous? “Recently I have found three doctors who have helped me tremendously,” she writes on the goop.com newsletter. Also, she advises, “Sleep eight hours for two weeks, then start eliminating ‘white’ foods. After two weeks of sleeping and eating better, you’ll have the energy to exercise.”
