Like TV, like life for teen actress

Keke Palmer (Associated Press / The Spokesman-Review)

Keke Palmer has played various roles in her short movie career. The 15-year-old actress was a girl quarterback in “The Longshots,” a reluctant school spelling champ in “Akeelah and the Bee” and a rope-skipping double Dutch competitor in “Jump In!”

Palmer is now set to be a fashion diva.

As the star of “True Jackson, VP,” which shows on the Nickelodeon cable-TV channel, she plays a 15-year-old fashion maven who, to the chagrin of her older co-workers, lands a job as head of a major label’s youth division.

And just like real life, Palmer suddenly is paying attention to labels and designers. “Before, I was just like, ‘Anything that looks good, throw it on,’ ” she says.

Although still not a fashion expert, Palmer says she has a lot in common with her character. “She’s a lot like me,” she says. “She’s persistent and hardworking and doing an adult job at a young age.”

For a celeb-mad pal, think of giving “Even More Outrageous Celebrity Meltdowns.” The pop-up book includes Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan flashing their privates, Rolling Stone Keith Richards falling out of a coconut tree, and Mel Gibson delivering his drunken anti-Semitic tirade.
