NIC third in soccer

Natalie Nichols had a goal and an assist as North Idaho College beat tournament host Chandler-Gilbert Community College 3-2 on Sunday in Chandler, Ariz., for third place in the National Junior College Athletic Association women’s soccer championship.

Jennifer Putnam and Kylee Williamson also scored for NIC, and Alicia Kahler made two saves.

Nichols and Williamson, both East Valley products, were selected to the all-tournament team. Nichols’ goal Sunday was her third of the tournament.

The Cardinals’ only loss in the tournament was to eventual champion Lewis & Clark Community College of Godfrey, Ill.

Men’s soccer

Adam Zakrzewski scored in the 70th minute to give Community Colleges of Spokane a 1-0 victory over Peninsula for third place in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges soccer championships at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila, Wash.

Men’s basketball

Brendan Ingebritsen scored 21 points and Zach Humphrey and Griffon Jones each had 15 as CC Spokane beat Grays Harbor 87-52 in Spokane.

Damal Neil collected eight rebounds for the Sasquatch. Nick Shultens had 21 points for the Chokers.

Junior hockey

The Spokane Braves scored three goals in the third period, but the comeback bid fell short in a 5-4 loss to the Kimberley Dynamiters in Spokane.

Shane Horlacher scored twice for the Braves, and Jake Peterson and Connor Olstad each had a goal.
