Whitworth thumps Chapman
Nate Montgomery scored a game-high 17 points and Calvin Jurich chipped in with a double-double – 12 points, 12 rebounds – to lead the Whitworth Pirates to a 62-47 victory over the Chapman Panthers at the Thanksgiving Classic in Pasadena, Calif.
Ross Nakamura added 13 points for the Pirates (4-0), who held the Panthers (3-1) to 27.5 percent shooting (14 of 51) from the floor for the game. Whitworth shot lights out from the floor, hitting at a 51.2 percent clip (22 of 43).
Whitworth held Chapman to five points in the first 10 minutes of the game, opening up a 17-5 advantage. Montgomery grabbed nine rebounds to help the Pirates earn a 37-29 advantage on the boards.
CC Spokane 77, Peninsula 73: Zach Humphrey hit five 3-pointers and all 12 of his free throws en route to 29 points and the Sasquatch (2-1) held off the Pirates (1-2) at the Red Devils Classic in Longview, Wash.
Damal Neil added 17 points for the Sasquatch, while Brandan Ingebritsen came off the bench to score 12 on 4-of-7 shooting from 3-point range.
Spokane plays Southern Oregon at noon today.
