It’s Coolio and his kids in ‘Rules’
Tonight’s oddity
“Coolio’s Rules” debut, 10 p.m., Oxygen. Coolio found fame after growing up in a tough world. He ran with the Crips, did jail time, rapped the cautionary “Gangsta’s Paradise.”
So this is a surprise: Coolio is raising four kids from two mothers. He starts a catering company, grumbles about money, coaxes the kids to clean the house.
He’s not yet good at dad duties. Buying the kids a junker is fine, but why make them think they’ll get a luxury car?
Still, he seems earnest. You’ll like Coolio and his three daughters; you (and Coolio) may be befuddled by his son.
Tonight’s might-see
“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” 8-9 p.m., ABC. Many people consider this one of the great cartoons. We don’t, but we’ll admit it’s OK.
To fill out the hour, the little “You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown” has been added.

“House,” 8 p.m., Fox. A man and his daughter are sleepwalking. Is there a reason?
“NCIS,” 8 p.m., CBS. Against a Halloween backdrop, a killer offers Internet hints on who his next victim will be.
“Nova: Hunting the Hidden Dimension,” 7 p.m., KSPS, 8 p.m., KUID. Mathematicians, this film says, want straight lines and smooth angles. Measuring a coastline seemed impossible. Then Benoit Mandelbrot began talking of the chaotic “fractals” in nature. The result has affected everything from fashion to special effects to research into the body. This hour does a decent job of semi-explaining to the layman.
“Frontline: The War Briefing,” 9 p.m., KSPS, KUID. After quick victories in Afghanistan, this film says, Americans faced the tougher problem of holding on. “The situation is worse,” says Ronald Neumann, the ambassador there from 2005-2007. Here’s a look at questions ahead.
“Fringe,” 9:01 p.m., Fox. A woman seems to instantly give birth to a growing adult; both soon die. (Yes, there’s an explanation.) This is a rerun of the second episode of this above-average show.
“Greek” season-finale, 9 p.m., Family. Lauren Conrad of “The Hills” appears in a brief dream scene. That’s one of the few clever moments in an otherwise drab, end-of-the-school-year episode.
