ML star picks WSU
Carly Noyes, a 6-foot-5 forward who helped lead Moses Lake to a runner-up finish to Lewis and Clark in the State 4A girls tournament last spring, has committed to attend Washington State.
“I went on my visit there this past weekend and everything just felt right,” said Noyes, who averaged 19 points a game for the Chiefs last season. “I knew in my heart that’s where I wanted to be. I have a good relationship with the coaches. … I just know June (Daugherty) and the other coaches are going to turn that program around. The whole community support for athletics is amazing. I just knew that is what I wanted to do.”
She canceled visits with UCLA and Utah immediately and then also decided not to visit Gonzaga.
“The coaches at Gonzaga have been great to me, but I just knew I wanted to be at WSU and I wanted to play at the Pac-10 level.”

Taking loyalty to the grave
Fans of the German club Hamburger SV now have the chance for the ultimate resting place – their own cemetery and a grave covered with the original grass from the team’s playing field.
The cemetery was opened by the Bundesliga club and is within view of the team stadium.
The entrance to the HSV cemetery, which is part of a larger Hamburg cemetery, is a concrete replica of a soccer goal. The soccer cemetery will hold up to 500 graves.

Blogger Elway not so accurate
Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway has a new role as a blogger and prognosticator for a Web site catering to fantasy fans – and the early results are mixed.
The former Denver Broncos star is part of Open-Sports.com, and he was 8-8 in his projections for the NFL’s first week, the Rocky Mountain News reported.
That included picking Oakland to beat Denver, except Denver won 41-14.
“People want answers,” Elway said. “But it’s hard. There are so many things going on, and there is not a lot of difference between each team.”
Elway also acknowledged that, initially, “I had to ask what blogging was.”
