Moscow-Post Falls match suspended after collision

The Inland Empire League boys soccer match between visiting Moscow (7-1-0, 4-1-0) and Post Falls (1-6-1, 0-4-1) was suspended 6 minutes into the second half Saturday when players from both teams collided.

Post Falls junior midfielder Glenn Marves began having a seizure, Moscow coach Jared Vreeland said. Marves was taken by ambulance to the hospital where a CAT scan came back negative, Vreeland said. Marves was able to move his feet and hands, Vreeland said.

Moscow was ahead 1-0 when the players collided trying to win a 50-50 ball, Vreeland said. The players’ heads took the brunt of the collision.

Mac Stannard scored the lone goal in the 26th minute.

The coaches of both teams agreed to suspend the match. Whether Moscow receives credit for a win or the match must resume from the point of the suspension won’t be determined until Monday when the athletic directors confer, Vreeland said.

Intermountain League: Miguel Mendez scored a hat trick to lead Bonners Ferry to a 4-0 win over visiting St. Maries.

Jody Wilkerson accounted for the Badgers’ (7-4-0, 3-0-0) fourth goal. The Lumberjacks (5-4-2, 3-2-0) had to play without their starting goalkeeper, who was ineligible.

Girls soccer

Inland Empire League: Post Falls (3-7-0, 2-3-0), which opened the season by losing seven straight, won its third in a row, topping Moscow 2-1 at Moscow. Jenifer Hansen put the Bears (4-3-2, 1-2-1) ahead 1-0 in the 20th minute, but Tareyn White provided the equalizer 15 minutes later. White scored an unassisted goal in the second half.

Great Northern League: Junior Niina Al-Hassan had her second hat trick of the week as she led Pullman (3-1, 3-0) to a 6-0 win over visiting Colville (0-3, 0-2).

Intermountain League: Kendra Johnson scored two of Bonners Ferry’s three goals as the Badgers (5-6-0, 5-2-0) topped visiting St. Maries 3-1. Kalah Allen gave St. Maries (2-5-1, 2-2-0) a 1-0 6 minutes into the match. … Elsewhere, Kellogg (2-3-0, 2-2-0) shut out Timberlake (2-4-0, 2-4-0) 3-0 at Kellogg. Junior Lee Fink scored two goals.

Volleyball

Inland Empire League: Sandpoint swept Lewiston 25-15, 25-9, 25-21 in dominating fashion at Les Rogers Court.

Piper Wahlin led the Bulldogs (5-1) with nine kills and Koko James had four aces.

In another IEL match, Brigitte Lowe had a team-high 14 kills as Moscow topped visiting Post Falls 19-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-21. Dani Meehan led the Trojans (0-5) with 10 kills. Lowe and Rachel Brooker had three aces each for Moscow (4-2).

Great Northern League: Stephanie Ruygrock had 24 digs to lead Deer Park past visiting Clarkston 25-20, 25-13, 25-23.

In another GNL match, Jorden Brons had a team-high six kills to lead Colville to a 3-0 sweep of visiting Clarkston.

Junior hockey

Tanner Slarks and Dylan Tappe each scored twice as the Spokane Braves beat the host Grand Forks Border Bruins 9-2 in a KIJHL game at Grand Forks, British Columbia.
