Brews for a cause

The brewery at C.I. Shenanigan’s, 332 N. Spokane Falls Blvd., is teaming with the Spokane-based Bighorn Foundation on Wednesday for a Hops for Hawks benefit party at the restaurant.

Head brewer Gabe Smoley created a special Hawktoberfest brew for the celebration, during which the Bighorn Foundation, which works to preserve wildlife through education and conservation projects, will give a live presentation featuring birds of prey that have been rescued by the organization.

“What’s better than drinking a beer to help a local community organization?” Smoley said via e-mail. “Sure I’ll have another beer! It’s my civic duty!”

Wednesday’s festivities run from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for C.I. Shenanigan’s mug club members, $15 for MVP club members and $20 for everyone else, and include two beers, a buffet and the Bighorn presentation.

The reservation cutoff is Sunday. E-mail gsmoley@primedine.com or (509) 455-6690.

Elktoberfest!

Spokane’s annual Elktoberfest celebration returns this Saturday and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. to The Elk Public House, 1931 W. Pacific Ave.

If your cupboard’s in need of some new vessels for sipping suds, this is as good a chance as any to grab some, since the party features 1-liter steins full of beer for around $15 (the price wasn’t solidified as of press time), and you get to keep the glass.
