Fairways to host Shriners Hospital benefit tourney

The Fairways Golf Course is organizing a benefit tournament next week to benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children – Spokane. The Friday, Aug. 14 event is co-sponsored by Odom Corporation – Miller Coors, and designed to raise money and awareness for the hospital, which is part of a struggling national organization. Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m., and play begins at 9 a.m. with a four-man scramble shotgun format. “Shriners Hospital has done so much for the children of our area as well as for children all over the world,” said Kris Kallem, general manager. “We hold this organization very close to our hearts and it is our goal is to raise as much money as possible through the generosity of the Spokane area golfers and businesses.” Along with 18 holes to play, participants can take part in various long drive contests and various hole-in-one competitions. There will be a fundraiser raffle at the end, plus an awards party and grilled steak dinner. Fairways owner Buster Heitman said his connection to the hospital is more than just a hosting business. “Two of my children have greatly benefited from the great care and compassion shown by the Shriners Hospitals for Children,” he said. “We have been working hard improving the golf course and the facilities and we are excited to host this tournament.
