Agreed Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson agreed Wednesday to a new contract that will keep him with the BCS-bound Horned Frogs through the 2016 season. Patterson has led fourth-ranked TCU to five 11-win seasons the past seven years.

Signed The Atlanta Braves agreed to a $7 million, one-year contract with closer Billy Wagner. The six-time All-Star gets $6.75 million in 2010, and his deal includes a $6.5 million club option for 2011 with a $250,000 buyout.

•Center Marc Savard passed on a chance to become a free agent next summer for an opportunity to finish his career with the Boston Bruins. The team’s leading scorer each of the past three seasons signed a seven-year contract extension worth slightly more than $28 million.

•Jazz coach Jerry Sloan has signed a deal to return next year for his 23rd season as Utah’s head coach. Sloan, 67, is the longest-tenured active coach in major professional sports.

Announced Texas quarterback Colt McCoy has a chance to repeat as the Walter Camp Football Foundation’s player of the year. McCoy was among five finalists announced. The others are QBs Tim Tebow of Florida and Case Keenum of Houston, RB Mark Ingram of Alabama and defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh of Nebraska.

•Longtime Pittsburg State football coach and athletic director Chuck Broyles announced he is stepping down as coach. The announcement comes a week after Broyles was cited for misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol.

Dick Enberg has agreed to become the San Diego Padres’ lead television play-by-play announcer, a person familiar with the negotiations said.

Honored Montana Grizzlies coach Bobby Hauck has been named the American Football Coaches Association Region 5 coach of the year for the third time.

Proposed Promoter Bob Arum flew to the Philippines with a proposed contract for a March 13 fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. The contract was agreed to by Mayweather’s representatives, but the boxer has yet to sign. Died Former Pittsburgh football coach Foge Fazio, who succeeded Jackie Sherrill at his alma mater and later was a defensive coordinator for Minnesota and Cleveland of the NFL, died following a lengthy battle with leukemia. He was 71.
