Good round for tie-down roper Durfey

LAS VEGAS – Tyson Durfey of Colbert used a solid third-place finish Saturday in the third round of tie-down roping at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo to move into ninth place in the world standings.

Durfey finished his run in 7.6 seconds to pocket $10,228 and run his season total to $91,486 – less than $1,700 behind eighth-place Scott Kormos of Teague, Texas.

Cheney’s Ryan Gray and Zack Oakes of Elk did not fare as well.

Gray and partner Jared Smith of Williston, Fla., failed to score in bareback riding. Oakes failed to score in bull riding.

Clint Robinson won the third round of tie-down roping with a 7.3-second run to move into second place behind Trevor Brazile in the world standings with seven rounds left in the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

Robinson, from Spanish Fork, Utah, has three sub-8.0 runs at the NFR.

Brazile, from Decatur, Texas, was fifth in the round at 8.0, and leads the world standings with $137,339.

Robinson has earned $129,697.

Brazile also leads the all-around standings with $295,775, followed by Robinson at $181,915 and Josh Peek of Pueblo, Colo., at $166,742.

In steer wrestling, Shawn Greenfield of Lakeview, Ore., won for the second straight round, this time with a run of 3.3 seconds.

In bull riding, Douglas Duncan of Alvin, Texas, won with a 90 on Hot Wired.

In bareback riding, a repeat of the first round occurred when Jason Havens of Prineville, Ore., and Justin McDaniel of Porum, Okla., tied for first place. They scored 85s.
