CCS thumps Olympic

Zach Humphrey hit six 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 20 points to lead the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch to an 84-68 win over the Olympic Rangers at the NWAACC men’s basketball crossover tournament at Spokane CC on Saturday.

Griffon Jones had 18 points and eight rebounds, Chris Pynch tallied 16 points and nine boards and Kevin Bond added 16 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots for the Sasquatch (8-2).

Reserve Dietrich Rios scored 17 to pace the Rangers (2-5).

CC Spokane will play Treasure Valley (5-3) for fourth place today at noon at SCC.

Chemeketa takes on South Puget Sound in the championship game today at 4 p.m. at SCC.

Women’s basketball

Mikah Maly-Karros came off the bench to score a game-high 28 points – 16 coming at the free-throw line – to lead the UC Irvine Anteaters (3-7) to an 87-73 win over the Eastern Washington Eagles (6-5) in Irvine, Calif.

Eastern was led by the 13 points of Nicole Scott and reserve Tatjana Sparavalo.

•Lykendra Johnson had 13 points and 11 rebounds and Lauren Aitch added 12 points to help No. 16 Michigan State (8-3) beat the Washington Huskies 69-52 in East Lansing, Mich.

Sami Whitcomb had 14 points for Washington (4-5), which didn’t score again for 11:23 after a basket in the first four seconds.

•Korrie Bourn totaled 13 points and eight rebounds and got plenty of help from reserves Meghan Eisenmann (13 points, six rebounds) and Kimberly Smith (11 points) to power the CC Spokane Sasquatch (6-1) to a 69-52 win over the Mt. Hood Saints (7-3) at the Skagit Valley crossover tourney in Mt. Vernon, Wash.

CC Spokane will play Skagit Valley (4-3) in the championship game today at 3 p.m.

•The fifth-ranked Baylor Bears (10-1) dominated the first half and cruised to a 70-49 victory over the Gonzaga Bulldogs (9-3) at the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic tournament.

Baylor’s sensational freshman Brittney Griner lived up to her billing by racking up 18 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocked shots.

Katelan Redmon led the Zags with 13 points, while Heather Bowman added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Baylor led 41-24 at the half.
