It was a good act

The Spokesman-Review

Two letters were published in the Sunday (Dec. 13) “Letters” by “devoted fans” who think the Gonzaga player involved in the ejection incident should be removed from the team for at least a year, and failing that punishment, “the coach should be asked to resign his position.”

These gentlemen obviously didn’t know what they were watching in that game or they would feel considerably different.

The offended player from Wake Forest had been consistently standing with his arms outstretched and then, trying to make it appear “accidental,” would swing around and drive his elbow(s) into the face of the Gonzaga defender. This particular player, who incidentally fouled out, didn’t get called for this blatant foul until after getting the Gonzaga player ejected. He managed to perform this little act right in front of a television camera, where it was replayed repeatedly for the television audience.

Also, it must be pointed out, that the Wake Forest player, during the incident that resulted in the ejection, put on an admirable performance, falling backward in order to dramatize the incident. A performance he managed to brag about to the press after the game.
