NIC rape report was false, police say; woman charged

A woman who told police a man disguised himself as a woman and waited for her in a North Idaho College restroom apparently lied. The alleged victim is now charged with misdemeanor filing a false report, said Sgt. Christie Wood, a spokeswoman for the Coeur d’Alene Police Department. Detectives reinterviewed the alleged victim, and her story did not match the information police uncovered, Wood said. The woman, who is not an NIC student, told police the attack occurred on Jan. 30, but she didn’t report it to campus security until Feb. 6. She reported her assailant waited in the women’s bathroom of the Meyer Health Science Building and raped her when she arrived about 4 p.m. She also told police she knew the suspect was a man and provided his name.
