WSU opens golf season

ST. GEORGE, Utah – Washington State’s first men’s golf outing of the spring produced a pair of runner-up finishes – for the team and sophomore Nick Ellis – at the Thunderbird Invitational on Tuesday.

Ellis lost a one-hole playoff to Erik Jarvey of Cal State Northridge after an even-par 72 in the second round left him with a two-day total of 141. Juniors Kevin Tucker, who had the day’s best round of 71, and Austin Hart also finished in the top 25 as the Cougars finished six strokes behind team champion San Jose State.
