A plan for baseball

The Spokesman-Review

With the Alex Rodriguez revelation out in public, it is time to do something radical to save what is left of the reputation of our all-American pastime, baseball.

The sport needs to come clean once and for all.

I propose we grant steroid amnesty to all present and past pro players. If you come forward by a given date, confess any past or present performance-enhancing drug use, and you make a $1,000 donation to a fund set up to educate against the use of such drugs, then any and all records or achievements you have made in the sport shall remain intact.

If you do not fess up to any drug use, and are later found to have done so, you will be expelled from the sport forever, and your past records will be erased. Likewise, any drug use after the amnesty date will warrant an immediate and permanent ban from the sport.

Let us clean this slate and return to game that has historically provided many role models for our American youth.
