Linfield upsets 15th-ranked Whits

Erik Olson tallied a double-double and K.C. Wiser just missed one to spark the Linfield Wildcats to an 88-79 victory over the 15th-ranked Whitworth Pirates in Northwest Conference men’s basketball action on Saturday in McMinnville, Ore.

Olson finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Wiser scored 21 with eight boards.

Whitworth’s Nate Montgomery also notched a double-double with game highs of 25 points and 10 rebounds.

Linfield used a 10-0 run in the first half to take control – turning a one-point lead into a 25-13 advantage. The Wildcats (4-8, 2-2) increased the lead to 38-22 before the Pirates (11-2, 3-1) scored the last seven points of the half, capped by Ross Nakamura’s 3-pointer, to cut the lead to nine.

Linfield controlled the boards by a 33-27 margin and hit 10 of 22 shots from long range.

Nakamura finished with 13 points and five assists for the Whits, while David Riley and Tim Seilereit each scored 12.

CC Spokane 75, Big Bend 70: Damal Neil tossed in 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the floor and grabbed eight rebounds to guide the Sasquatch (9-3) past the visiting Vikings (7-6) in a Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges opener at Spokane Falls Community College.

Brendan Ingebritsen came off the bench to score 14 and Kevin Cameron handed out eight assists for the Sasquatch, who shot 47 percent from the floor.

Big Bend’s Kolby Secrist tied for game-high scoring honors with 22 and topped all rebounders with 12.
