Basketball

Former Washington State University women’s player Heather Molzen has signed a contract to play for Lemvig Basket of the Dameligaen League, the highest level of competition in Denmark.

Molzen, from Lakeside, Calif., was a four-year letterwinner for the Cougars. She made a combined 56 starts during her junior and senior seasons.

Molzen led the Cougars in rebounding during her senior season.

Academics

Eastern Washington University had 45 athletes honored on the Big Sky Conference all-academic team for the spring quarter.

Area track and field athletes are: Isaac Kuula, Cheney High, freshman; Cameron Moore, Ferris High, senior; Ryan Taylor, Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) High, sophomore; April Axtell, CC Spokane, sr.; Bonnie Berscheid, Priest River High, sr.; Stephanie Dye, Riverside High, fr.; Shannon Long, CCS, sr.; Ashley Stabl, Tekoa-Oakesdale High, fr.; and Brittney Williams, Colville High, soph.

Also honored was Kasie King, University of Idaho, women’s tennis, junior.

Softball

Players Judy Brown, Jerry Dobson, Mike Hare and Tim Mellon plus Vern Ziegler as a sponsor will be inducted into the Inland Empire Softball Hall of Fame Aug. 8 at the Sons of Norway Hall, 6710 North Country Homes Blvd., following a dinner.

Also, scholarships have been awarded to two senior fastpitch players: Kim Hare (North Central, 2008) and Danielle Lynn (Shadle Park, 2009).

Track and field

Sprinter Greg Hornsby Jr. has signed a letter of intent to compete for Washington State, Cougars head coach Rick Sloan announced.

Hornsby, of Moreno Valley, Calif., has run the 100 meters in 10.69 seconds and the 200 in 21.41.

His sister, Jessika, is a sprinter at San Diego State.

•Idaho junior Paul Dittmer finished second last Sunday at the German Junior Championships in the 110-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 13.84 seconds. His performance should give him a qualifying spot in the European Under-23 Championships in August.
