Revealed The lawyer of Roger Clemens says the pitcher was not among the more than 100 players who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003. Rusty Hardin tells the New York Times that Clemens obtained the results from the drug-testing company and provided them to Congress before his 2008 testimony by waiving his right to keep them private. The results would not affect a federal grand jury’s investigation into whether Clemens should be indicted for perjury. Clemens disputed former trainer Brian McNamee’s claims that he injected the pitcher with steroids and human growth hormone from 1998 to 2001. McNamee made no assertions about 2003. Players were anonymously tested in 2003 with no penalties. Hardin said he was revealing the results now because other players recently have been linked to the list.

Criticised Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone faced criticism from politicians and Jewish groups after being quoted as saying that Adolf Hitler “got things done.” In an interview with London’s The Times newspaper, Ecclestone expressed a preference for “strong leaders,” citing former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Max Mosley, outgoing head of Formula One’s governing body, as examples. “In a lot of ways, terrible to say this I suppose, but apart from the fact that Hitler got taken away and persuaded to do things that I have no idea whether he wanted to do or not, he was in the way that he could command a lot of people, able to get things done,” Jewish Chronicle editor Stephen Pollard said Ecclestone was “either an idiot or morally repulsive.”

Reunited Jockey Mike Smith is back on Mine That Bird. The Hall of Fame rider will pilot the Kentucky Derby winner in the $750,000 West Virginia Derby and the $1 million Travers Stakes next month. Smith takes over for Calvin Borel, who guided the 3-year-old gelding to a long-shot win in the Kentucky Derby and later added a third-place finish in the Belmont Stakes. Smith guided Mine That Bird to second-place in the Preakness after Borel opted to ride filly Rachel Alexandra, which edged Mine That Bird for the win. Trainer Bennie Woolley Jr. dumped Borel after Borel couldn’t make a firm commitment to ride Mine That Bird the rest of the year.
