Switch Seven weeks after wearing AC Milan’s jersey, David Beckham is ready to compete against the Italian power with the MLS’ Los Angeles Galaxy. Beckham and the Galaxy will play AC Milan tonight in an exhibition, Beckham’s first home game since returning from Italy on July 10.

Committed Former Indiana Pacers guard Marquis Daniels will play for the Boston Celtics next season. Agent Glenn Schwartzman said on Saturday that his client has committed to go to Boston as a free agent or as part of a sign-and-trade deal with Indiana. Schwartzman said both teams would prefer that the sign-and-trade works out, but the Celtics will use the biannual exception to sign Daniels if trade talks fizzle.

Out Portland State quarterback Tygue Howland will miss the upcoming season because of a knee injury that requires surgery. Howland tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on Monday while working out with teammates. He is scheduled for surgery on Aug. 12. It is Howland’s third season-ending injury in the past four years. Howland, a senior, was expected to back up projected starter Drew Hubel this season. Howland can petition the NCAA for an additional year of eligibility. Last season, Howland started in four games and appeared in three others.

Filed Three U.S. women wrestlers have filed a grievance with the sport’s national governing body, claiming gender discrimination and abusive behavior by national team coaches that led to a mass exodus from the Olympic Training Center. Olympic medalists Sara McMann, Patricia Miranda and Randi Miller, supported by seven other former OTC wrestlers in a 24-page complaint, allege Colorado Springs-based USA Wrestling violated the Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act by not providing “equitable support and encouragement for participation by women.”

Hired University of Montana athletic director Jim O’Day says Courtney Babcock has been hired as the Grizzlies’ full-time cross country and track distance coach. Babcock held the same position last season on an interim basis. Brian Schweyen was named director of track and field earlier this month, also after a year working on an interim basis, so the cross country and track and field programs at Montana are back to having a permanent coaching staff.
