Auditions

“Bell, Book and Candle” – StageWest Community Theatre of the West Plains is holding auditions, July 31, 6:30-8 p.m., Aug. 1, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., and Aug. 2, 1-4 p.m., at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 639 Elm St., Cheney. Needed: one woman appearing age 20-35 years old, one woman appearing older than 50, one man appearing older than 35, and two men appearing ages 20-40. “The Pirates of Penzance” – Spokane Civic Theatre, Aug. 3-4, 6:30 p.m., at the theater, 1020 N. Howard St. Needed: 16 men and eight to 10 women. Auditioners will perform a verse and a chorus from either a Gilbert and Sullivan piece or a classic musical, in addition to cold readings from the script. “12 Angry Jurors” – Ignite! Community Theatre is holding auditions Aug. 6, 7 p.m., at The Blue Door Theatre, 815 W. Garland Ave. Needed: 13 men and women appearing ages 19-65. “High School Musical 2: On Stage!” – Spokane Children’s Theatre, Aug. 9, 3 p.m., and Aug. 10, 6 p.m., at St. Aloysius School, 611 E. Auditioners should bring sheet music (accompanist provided) or instrumental only accompaniment CD to sing a one-minute song and dance comfortable for dance auditions. Classes and workshops

Summer Music Theatre Camp – Offered by Pend Oreille Players Association. Aug. 3-14, 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at The Playhouse, 240 N. Union Ave., Newport, Wash. Camp for youth ages 12-18 includes instruction in Acting, Improvisation, Stage Direction, Singing and Voice Development, Dance and Stage Movement, and more. The Art Coop Classes Mosaics: Bowling Ball, Terra Cotta Platter, Boulder – Monday-July 30. Holy Names Music Center Summer Camps Guitar Camp – For all ages, Monday-July 31, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Rock, jazz, fingerstyle and classical seminars by masters in each category. Students may bring either acoustic or electric guitars (small battery amplifiers only) or simply observe. Cost is $50 per session (fifth class is free after four paid sessions). Dog Days Music Workshops Guitar Workshop – For aspiring guitarists and singer-songwriters ages 12-18. Language of Music – How to listen to the audience, think of music as a conversation, develop a comfortable stage presence and more. Life is Music – Interactive class based on song form, theory, use of instrumentation and arrangement. The Opera Workshop – Students will listen to an aria being performed, then will be asked to sing and critiqued. Also covers dealing with stage fright. Idaho Writers League – Coeur d’Alene Chapter – Writers of all genres, teens through seniors, meet to exchange ideas and learn how to improve their craft.
