Body of missing camper recovered from Pend Oreille River
Donald R. Maskell slipped into the Priest River last month
The body of a Kootenai County man missing since he slipped into the Priest River last month was recovered Monday at the Albeni Falls Dam.
Searchers had suspended the hunt for Donald R. Maskell, 43, on Saturday. They presumed he drowned after falling off a log that angled into the river while camping on private property about four miles north of the confluence with the Pend Oreille River on May 22.
Army Corps of Engineers employees at the dam, which is located about four miles west of Priest River on the Pend Oreille River, found the body, according to the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives will investigate the cause of death, although it is presumed accidental, according to the sheriff’s office.
