Zags fun to watch

The Spokesman-Review

I opened the paper this morning (March 22) to the sports letters section to read an article written by J.P. O’Shaughnessy where he states that the Zags will be watching from home again when the Sweet 16 rolls around this year.

Funny, just the night before I watched the Zags beat Western Kentucky to advance to the Sweet 16 to play North Carolina. Obviously, O’Shaughnessy knows little about basketball. He also stated the Zags are “consistently overrated” and “chokers.”

Not only did the Zags make the Sweet 16, but this is the fifth time in 11 years they have advanced to the Sweet 16. I would guess about 99 percent of college basketball teams around the country would love to achieve that feat. This kind of consistency does not seem like a team that is overrated or chokers. The coaches and players should be proud of their success.

There have been a lot of negative letters about the Zags this year in The Spokesman. I have enjoyed watching every game this year and appreciate the fact we have a team that is consistently a top-20 team.

We have great coaches and great players who are fun to watch. I’m sure most of the Gonzaga fans would agree with me. Those few who continue to dwell on the negative aspects of the team should just quit watching the games.
