U-Hi eliminates Ferris in soccer
Mikey Ramos scored an overtime goal off an assist from Zach Allert, leading visiting University to a 3-2 District 8 4A boys soccer tournament win over Ferris at Albi Stadium, ending the Saxons’ season Wednesday.
U-Hi (11-3) advances to play Lewis and Clark at 7 p.m. Friday at Albi.
Allert and Matt Harper also scored goals for the Titans in regulation play, while Ferris (9-5) got its goals from Isaac Peters and James Matern.
Baseball
Greater Spokane League: East Valley’s Jake Pugsley stroked a two-run double to highlight a four-run seventh inning as the Knights (6-13) posted a 7-5 comeback win that snapped visiting Lewis and Clark’s (11-8) eight-game winning streak. EV, which also got a two-run home run from Jake Faulk in the sixth inning, opened the bottom half of the seventh with a walk and scored the winning run on a wild pitch.
•Elsewhere in the GSL: Central Valley was tied with Mt. Spokane at 1 in the top of the seventh when the game was halted by rain. The teams will finish the game today and also play their regularly scheduled game that was supposed to start at 4 p.m. at CV. … The Mead at University game was rained out and rescheduled for Friday. … Ferris and host Gonzaga Prep postponed their game after two innings and will finish it prior to today’s regularly scheduled 4 p.m. game at Ferris.
•Idaho 4A Region I: The Sandpoint at Moscow game was rained out and is scheduled to be played at 4 p.m. today.
Softball
Greater Spokane League: Cassie Wendt drove in five runs and scored another to power visiting Ferris to a 17-6 win over Rogers. Hilary Johnson drove in a pair of runs, scored four and scattered six hits in picking up the win for the Saxons (4-13), who torched the Pirates (1-16) for 10 runs in the sixth.
•Idaho 4A Region I: The Lakeland at Moscow game was rained out and was rescheduled for 4 p.m. today.
