Vikings eliminated in 5A baseball
Coeur d’Alene was eliminated at the Idaho State 5A baseball championship with an 8-4 loss to Highland on Friday at Hawks Memorial Stadium in Boise.
A five-run second inning was pivotal for Highland (19-12) in the win over the Vikings (21-9).
Lewiston (22-4) advanced to the consolation championship against Highland with a 10-1 victory over Twin Falls (25-7).
Tanner Hollingsworth had three of Lewiston’s 14 hits and Liam Park gave up six hits in the complete-game victory.
State 4A: Moscow rolled into the championship game with a 17-6 victory over Rigby in Boise.
The Bears will play Minico, which defeated Hillcrest 12-2 in the other semifinal, at Bishop Kelly today for the title.
State 3A: At Ontario, Ore., South Fremont defeated Bonners Ferry 11-1 to knock the Badgers into today’s third-place game at noon against Buhl, which lost to Fruitland 15-0 in the other semifinal.
Zach Roberts had two of the Badgers’ three hits. The Badgers are 17-9.
Softball
State 3A: St. Maries (15-11) lost twice and was eliminated, as was Timberlake (20-9), at Kimberly High School.
The Lumberjacks lost to the host school 5-0 as Nellie Makings gave up just two hits, struck out 13 and hit two triples for the winners.
St. Maries then fell to Sugar-Salem 4-1, being no-hit by Kimber Choffin, who fanned 14.
The Lumberjacks scored their run in the bottom of the seventh.
Sugar-Salem defeated Timberlake 7-3 earlier with Choffin giving up five hits but going the distance again for the win. Aston Allred had two hits for Timberlake, including a triple.
