’Cats advance to state

Annie Arnzen collected 23 kills in two matches Saturday and Mt. Spokane swept Shadle Park and West Valley-Yakima to win the 3A regional tournament in Hanford.

In the title match, the Wildcats beat WVY 25-20, 25-17, 29-27 behind 20 assists from Kenzie Reid.

WVY beat SP in four games to advance as the second seed to the state tournament.

•District 7 2A: Shelby Cheslek slammed 16 kills and Kayle Byrne tallied 24 digs for Pullman, which beat West Valley 25-16, 24-26, 25-23, 25-14 at East Valley High to advance to the State 2A tournament as the No. 1 seed. The Eagles, led by 13 kills from Bailey Wold, will play as the No. 2 seed. … Playing in the elimination game, Colville came back after dropping the opener to beat Cheney 21-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-17 and advanced to state as the No. 3 seed.

District 7 1A: Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) took the top seed from the tournament, sweeping Newport 25-19, 25-20, 26-24 at University High School. Leslie Stillar and Alex Daggy each contributed 15 kills for the Eagles against Newport, bringing their daily totals to 30 apiece in two matches. … To determine the No. 2 seed, Freeman beat Newport 22-25, 25-16, 18-25, 25-21, 15-13 behind 18 kills and five blocks from Leah Jansen and 39 assists from Blair Riddle.

District 7 2B: Rachel Johnson tallied 22 assists and four aces and Kayla Johnson added 19 kills and five blocks as Colfax swept Reardan 25-13, 25-16, 25-11 at St. George’s to earn the No. 1 seed to the state tournament. Reardan advances as the second seed. The third seed went to Northwest Christian, which won 29-27, 25-22, 27-25 against Davenport.

District 9 2B: At Dayton, Tekoa-Oakesdale advanced as the No. 1 seed with a 26-24, 25-14, 25-20 win over Pomeroy behind 18 kills, five blocks and three aces from Desi Chappell.

•District 7 1B: Nikki Osborne had 16 kills, 15 digs and seven blocks to lead Almira/Coulee-Hartline to its first district title with a 27-25, 17-25, 25-20, 25-20 win against Sprague-Harrington at Northwest Christian. Both teams advance to state. Northport defeated Odessa for the third berth.

District 9 1B: Kelly Van Lith had 18 kills and two blocks and along the back line recorded 58 digs to lead St. John-Endicott to a 25-19, 20-25, 25-23, 25-19 win over LaCrosse-Washtucna at Dayton High School. Both teams go to state.
