Sooners shut out Cowboys

Associated Press

DeMarco Murray ran for two touchdowns, Ryan Broyles returned a punt 88 yards for a score and Oklahoma knocked No. 11 Oklahoma State out of contention for its first appearance in the Bowl Championship Series with a 27-0 win Saturday at Norman, Okla.

With representatives of the Fiesta and Orange bowls watching, the Cowboys (9-3, 6-2 Big 12) fell completely flat with their worst offensive performance of the decade.

Oklahoma State was shut out for the first time since 2005 by an Oklahoma (7-5, 5-3) defense coming off its worst outing of the year in a loss at Texas Tech last week.

Zac Robinson threw for only 44 yards on 9-for-21 passing after missing last week’s game with injuries to his head and shoulder. He was pulled in the fourth quarter with his lowest passing total since taking over as the starting quarterback early in the 2007 season.

(4) TCU 51, New Mexico 10: At Fort Worth, Texas, Andy Dalton matched a career high with four touchdown passes, two to Antoine Hicks in a 12-second span, as the fourth-ranked Horned Frogs (12-0, 8-0 Mountain West) wrapped up their first undefeated regular season in 71 years with a victory over the Lobos (1-11, 1-7).

That should make the Horned Frogs a BCS buster, though they will have to wait another week to find out for sure. Representatives from the Fiesta, Orange and Sugar bowls attended the game.

(14) Virginia Tech 42, Virginia 13: At Charlottesville, Va., Ryan Williams ran for 182 yards and four TDs and the Hokies (9-3, 6-2 ACC) beat the Cavaliers (3-9, 2-6).

South Carolina 34, (15) Clemson 17: At Columbia, S.C., Stephen Garcia threw three touchdown passes and the Gamecocks (7-5) defense slowed down star running back C.J. Spiller in a victory over the Tigers (8-4).

(17) LSU 33, Arkansas 30 (OT): At Baton Rouge, La., Josh Jasper hit a 41-yard field goal with 4 seconds left to force overtime, then made a 36-yarder in overtime to lift the Tigers (9-3, 5-3 SEC) to a victory over the Razorbacks (7-5, 3-5).

Alex Tejada missed a 36-yard field goal attempt for Arkansas that could have forced a second OT.

(18) BYU 26, (22) Utah 23 (OT): At Provo, Utah, Max Hall threw a 25-yard touchdown pass in overtime to Andrew George to give the Cougars (10-2, 7-1 Mountain West) a victory over the Utes (9-3, 6-2) for BYU’s third victory in four years in the in-state rivalry.

(19) Miami 31, South Florida 10: At Tampa, Fla., Javarris James rushed for two touchdowns, Jacory Harris threw for two more, and the Hurricanes (9-3) took a big early lead on the way to beating the Bulls (7-4).

Mississippi State 41, (20) Mississippi 27: At Starkville, Miss., backup quarterback Chris Relf accounted for three touchdowns and Anthony Dixon set the Bulldogs’ (5-7, 3-5 SEC) single-season rushing record in a win over the Rebels (8-4, 4-4).

Dixon has 1,390 yards in 11 games, breaking James Johnson’s record by 7 yards.

N.C. State 28, (23) North Carolina 27: At Raleigh, N.C., Russell Wilson threw four touchdown passes and Alan-Michael Cash blocked a field goal with about five minutes left to help the Wolfpack (5-7, 2-6 ACC) rally past the Tar Heels (8-4, 4-4).
