Signed The Dallas Stars signed left wing Loui Eriksson to a six-year, $25.5 million extension. Eriksson’s signing Friday came after he led the National Hockey League team with a career-high 36 goals last season. That was the most for a Dallas player since Brett Hull had 39 in 2000-01. Eriksson is signed through the 2015-16 season.

Sidelined Notre Dame’s hopes of bouncing back after a disappointing finish last year took a hit when basketball forward Scott Martin learned he will miss the season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The 6-foot-8 Martin, a transfer from Purdue, was expected to start.

•Hawaii quarterback Greg Alexander will miss the rest of the season after injuring his left knee Wednesday night in a loss at Louisiana Tech, school officials said.

•Montreal Canadiens All-Star defenseman Andrei Markov will be out for at least four months after slicing a tendon in his ankle.

Suspended Four University of Massachusetts football players have been suspended from the team following their arrests by Amherst police on drug charges. The school said in a statement that the players were suspended for violating team rules. The players were identified as James Carven, a junior defensive back; Bob McLaughlin, a junior defensive lineman; Mike Mele, a junior linebacker; and Shane Viveiros, a sophomore defensive back.

Promoted The NHL’s Florida Panthers made Randy Sexton the team’s new general manager, promoting the man responsible for the club’s numerous off-season moves.

Issued A Las Vegas judge issued an arrest warrant for Roger Mayweather after the boxing trainer failed to show up for a court appearance on battery and coercion charges. Mayweather, who coached his nephew Floyd Mayweather Jr. to victory in a September fight, did not appear or have a lawyer present at a felony arraignment in Las Vegas Justice Court.

Withdrawn Olympic team silver medalist Chellsie Memmel has withdrawn from the final selection process for the U.S. team for the 2009 World Gymnastics Championships. Memmel, the 2005 world champion, is coming back from ankle surgery performed late last year.
