No gimmicks with Vick in traditional QB role
The latest wrinkle in the Michael Vick experiment eliminated the gimmicks. Vick was back under center and yelling the signals like any other quarterback.
For the first time in 33 months, Vick took a few snaps and even showed a flash of his old dazzling style Sunday. Vick put the finishing touches on the Philadelphia Eagles’ 33-14 win over Tampa Bay, playing the final two series and shaking off a hard hit to his ribs.
Vrabel 11 for 11 in TD catches
Kansas City veteran linebacker Mike Vrabel caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Matt Cassel, giving him 11 receptions for 11 touchdowns in his 13-year career.
Vrabel lined up on the left side on third-and-goal. He easily made the catch, giving the winless Chiefs a 10-0 lead in the second quarter.
Injury report
Browns coach Eric Mangini has spoken with NFL officials about concerns over how rookie running back James Davis suffered a season-ending shoulder injury, and whether it happened during a post-practice session.
Mangini was responding to a question about an ESPN report citing two unnamed witnesses claiming Davis was not wearing pads after practice when he was struck by an unnamed Browns linebacker, who was wearing pads.
•San Francisco strong safety Michael Lewis has suffered his third concussion of the season, going down during the 49ers’ game against Atlanta early in the third quarter trying to tackle Michael Turner.
Lewis, who sustained two concussions during an 11-day span in the preseason, could be sidelined for a prolonged period.
