Warm weather keeps summer going
Two more days of summer conditions will keep the Inland Northwest toasty, but then a low pressure system off the Pacific Ocean is expected to bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms by Wednesday evening.
Highs today should reach the lower to middle 80s across the region with mostly sunny skies and light wind. On Wednesday, temperatures should bump into the 90s.
The forecast calls for highs today of 84 in downtown Spokane, 82 in Spokane Valley, 84 in Post Falls and 83 in Coeur d’Alene.
On Wednesday, highs should go as much as 10 degrees warmer with highs of 93 in Coeur d’Alene and 92 in downtown Spokane, Spokane Valley and Post Falls.
The chance of showers Wednesday evening and Thursday is pegged at 20 to 30 percent. Even with the storm system, highs will go to the middle 70s. That is still a few degrees above normal for mid-September. Winds are expected to remain light to breezy Wednesday night and Thursday.
The weather rebounds on Friday, but another low pressure system is due to cross the region Friday night and Saturday with more clouds and showers. Mostly sunny conditions return Sunday with highs in the 70s.
Higher air pressure is expected to rebuild to unusually strong levels on Monday for another round of late summer warmth.
The mid-range outlook for Sept. 22 through 28 calls for above-normal temperatures and below-normal precipitation.
Record temperatures are being set across the region. Wenatchee’s lowest temperature on Monday was 67 degrees, breaking the previous record for the warmest daily low of 61.
At 7 a.m. today, temperatures locally were once again mild with 55 at Spokane International Airport, 57 at Felts Field, 60 at Coeur d’Alene and 52 at Deer Park. Cooler conditions were reported in Sandpoint at 48 degrees and Pullman at 49.
