Sooners sub sets school record

Football: Filling in for injured Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford, redshirt freshman Landry Jones set an Oklahoma school record with six touchdown passes in a 45-0 victory over Tulsa in Norman, Okla, Saturday.

Jones connected with Ryan Broyles for a 36-yard touchdown pass midway through the third quarter to break the mark held by Bradford, 2003 Heisman winner Jason White and 2000 Heisman runner-up Josh Heupel.

Bradford had thrown five touchdown passes on six occasions, while White did it three times and Heupel twice.

We judge this as unfortunate

Football: Wake Forest receiver Chris Givens ran straight down the field, unable to shake free from Elon cornerback Karlos Sullivan.

Then the back judge stepped in.

Tommy Pace inadvertently tripped Sullivan just as he reached the end zone. Both the official and the cornerback sprawled to the turf, just as a suddenly wide-open Givens caught Riley Skinner’s 54-yard pass in the end zone untouched.

Pace got up, hustled a few yards and signaled touchdown as Sullivan looked on incredulously, palms pointed to the sky.

Officials are considered part of the field, so Elon could do nothing about it as Wake Forest took a 21-0 lead on its way to a 37-7 victory.
