Released Boise State has released two new recruits from their commitments to the basketball team, and a third has been cleared to shop himself to other schools. Athletic officials released guard Chris Kupets and forward Bryn Prinsloo. Both are junior college transfers signed by former coach Greg Graham, who was fired last month. Officials are also allowing 7-foot center Ben Mills to talk to other coaches. To make up for the loss, Tre’ Nichols, a point guard from McLennan Community College, is expected to sign this week a letter of intent to play for the Broncos next season.
Sidelined Phoenix Suns center Robin Lopez remains sidelined with a bulging disc in his back and the chances of him returning for the playoffs are shrinking. After the 7-footer was examined by a specialist the team released a statement saying that he is progressing well and was to be re-evaluated in a week.
Banned Argentine defender Matias Manrique has been banned for five matches after calling Ecuadorean defender Giovanny Espinoza a “monkey” in a soccer match last month. Manrique, who plays for Nublense, said he did not plan to appeal the suspension.
Signed NFL quarterback Jason Campbell has signed his $3.1 million tender with the Washington Redskins, taking him off the market as a restricted free agent while leaving open the possibility of a trade. •The Minnesota Vikings have re-signed restricted free agents Ryan Cook (offensive lineman), Fred Evans (defensive tackle) and former WSU Cougar Eric Frampton (safety/special teams).
•The Detroit Lions have signed defensive end Jared DeVries to a one-year contract. The team confirmed the agreement but did not disclose details.
Extended The Sacramento Kings have picked up the option on the contract of coach Paul Westphal for the 2011-12 season. The Kings are 25-55 with two games remaining in Westphal’s first season as coach, an improvement over last year’s 17-win season.
