History to produce miniseries ‘Kennedys’
Greg Kinnear and Katie Holmes will star in “The Kennedys,” the History Channel’s first scripted miniseries.
Kinnear will play President John F. Kennedy and Holmes will portray first lady Jacqueline Kennedy in the eight-hour program about the famous family.
Barry Pepper is set to play Robert Kennedy, who served as U.S. attorney general in his brother’s administration. Tom Wilkinson is cast as patriarch Joseph Kennedy.
The miniseries is scheduled to air on the History Channel in 2011.
Charles in charge
Britain’s Prince Charles will be featured on NBC later this year in a film about his environmental work.
“Harmony,” a movie about the prince and his view that people have lost the understanding of how to live in harmony with the natural world, features business and environmental leaders working for a better balance.
The film also includes clips from an interview Prince Charles did about the environment in 1988 with future Nobel Prize winner Al Gore.
The special will air in November, part of NBC Universal’s fourth annual week of programming promoting green lifestyles.
Saving ‘Southland’
TNT will air another season of “Southland,” the Los Angeles-based police drama that the cable network picked up when it was dumped by NBC.
The network has ordered 10 new episodes of the series, to air starting in January. It’s produced by John Wells, who has “ER” and “The West Wing” on his resume.
NBC dropped the series just before it was to begin a second season in what appeared to be a cost-cutting move. But TNT resurrected it, making six new episodes that have aired this spring.
Extended ‘Therapy’
Former “Friends” star Lisa Kudrow’s Internet series is moving to a bigger screen.
Showtime says it will air at least 10 episodes of “Web Therapy” starting next year, with new material shot for TV.
Kudrow plays a self-proclaimed psychotherapist who treats patients through weekly three-minute sessions via webcam.
In its third season of online episodes, “Web Therapy” has featurd such guest stars as Courteney Cox, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jane Lynch (“Glee”) and Rashida Jones (“The Office”).
