Area basketball: Sasquatch men reach tournament final

Preston Wynne hit five 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 22 points and pulled down seven rebounds to propel the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (7-4) to a 76-69 victory Saturday over the Tacoma Titans (4-1) at the Mt. Hood Crossover in Gresham, Ore.

The win sends the Sasquatch to the championship game of the tournament at 4 p.m. today against Mt. Hood.

DeAngelo Jones came off the Sasquatch bench to score 17 – hitting 12 of 14 free throws – and snag seven rebounds.

Teammate Matt Barnes had eight points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Chaz Johnson scored 12 and reserve Nate Frisbie snared 10 rebounds.

Brandon Magee scored 21 to lead Tacoma.

The Sasquatch trailed 38-33 at halftime before outscoring the Titans 43-31 after the break.

CC Spokane’s bench outscored Tacoma’s bench 27-17.

Women

Hillary Carlson poured in 25 points and the Wyoming Cowgirls (7-3) romped to a 63-43 nonconference win over the Washington State Cougars (2-9) in Laramie, Wyo.

Hana Potter led WSU with 10 points.

WSU made only 19 of 65 shots from the floor (29.2 percent) for the game.

The Cougars trailed 27-21 with 3 minutes, 48 seconds left in the first half. But Wyoming went on a 10-2 run to take a 37-23 lead at the break.

San Diego 72, EWU 61: The Toreros used a 26-6 advantage at the free-throw line to hold off the Eagles in a nonconference game in San Diego.

Tatjana Sparavalo hit four of EWU’s season-high 11 3-pointers to finish with a team-high 17 points. Chene Cooper added 12 points and six rebounds.

Kyla Evans and Brianne Ryan each finished with nine points for Eastern.

San Diego was led by the 20 points of Morgan Woodrow. Emily Hatch and Nya Mason each notched double-doubles. Hatch had 13 points and 11 boards, while Mason tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Bellevue 63, CC Spokane 56: Reserve Sanda Milovic scored 17 and Kelly Sutherland chipped in 16 points and eight rebounds to carry the Bulldogs to a victory over the Sasquatch in the semifinals of the Bellevue Crossover tournament.

Brooke Randall led CCS (6-2) with a game-high 20 points, while Korrie Bourn finished with 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. CCS will play Yakima at 1 p.m. today for third place.
