Prep roundup: Colfax balance does in Kettle Falls

Balanced scoring that saw eight players contribute, led by Amelie Bruya’s nine points, helped visiting Colfax (2-2, 2-0 league) come away with a 45-42 Bi-County League girls victory on Monday night in Kettle Falls.

Nikka Yankus of Kettle Falls (4-4, 3-2) had a game-high 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots. But the home team was plagued by 14 of 30 free-throw shooting, including 2 of 7 during a four-point third quarter when Colfax took charge.

Nonleague

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 61, Davenport 42: The two-pronged attack of Nikki Osborne (19 points) and Madeline Isaak (16 points, 12 boards) offset the 30-point night of the Gorillas’ Miranda Mielke as ACH (5-1) won at home. Davenport is 1-4.

Selkirk 54, Wilbur-Creston 30: Courtney Holter hit two of her three 3-pointers and scored eight of her game-high 17 points in Selkirk’s 20-point first quarter as the Rangers (6-2) at Wilbur-Creston (2-3). Kim Conway led WC with 13.

Wellpinit 51, Chewelah 45: Lauren Flett had five 3-pointers and a game-high 19 points for the Redskins (3-3), who opened a game-high 12-point lead in the second quarter, then held on. The Cougars (2-5), who hit 13 of 15 free throws, were led by Samantha Beamer’s 14 points.

Lake City 64, Wenatchee 61: Sydney Butler’s 5-for-5 free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter, including two with 25 seconds left to end the scoring, helped the Timberwolves (8-1) pull out the road win. Katie Rowe blocked a 3-point Wenatchee shot in the final seconds. Butler, Rowe and Jasmyn Smith led LC 13 points apiece.

Colton 74, Genesee 8: Mollie Kramer’s 16 points led 11 Wildcats (6-1) who scored – 28 points came from reserves – in the border battle against the visiting Bulldogs (1-10).

Newport 57, Bonners Ferry 43: Miranda Frederick hit 7 of 9 free throws in an 18-point game that kept the Grizzlies (9-0) unbeaten with a road win. Twenty-eight turnovers plagued the Badgers (1-4), who were led by Markayle Acord’s 13 points.

Colfax 59, Kettle Falls 19: A 21-0 first quarter got Colfax started en route to the road win. Kyle Johnson hit 2 of 3 3-pointers and led three Colfax (3-1, 2-0 league) players in double figures with 12 points. Brandon Gfeller scored 11 and Alex Teade 10. Kasey Morgan led KF (1-7, 0-5) with nine.

Nonleague

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 64, Davenport 49: Derek Isaak scored seven of his game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter and Robert Hurka added nine of his 11 as ACH (6-0) blew open a tie game with a 22-point final period. Josh Kikkel led the Gorillas (2-3) with 17.

Lake City 50, Wenatchee 36: The Timberwolves (4-2) tightened the defense to overcome a 17-10 first-quarter deficit at Wenatchee. Chris Wheelock led LC with 13 points and Scott Turner had 11, nine rebounds and two blocks.

Chewelah 67, Northport 42: Tyler Monasmith hit two of his three 3-pointers in a row late in the second quarter to break open a tight game and the Cougars (3-4) cruised at Northport (4-3). Ben Johnstone and Andrew Pugh had 12 points each to lead Chewelah. Monasmith finished with nine. Michal Marko had 19 points, nine rebounds and five assists for Northport.

Newport 65, Bonners Ferry 54: Jake Wiley tossed in 20 points and Chaize Exkano added 19, hitting 3 of 6 3-pointers, to lead the Grizzlies (5-4) at Bonners Ferry. Aaron Moe had 13 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals for the Badgers (1-4).
