Chiefs’ streak hits five
KAMLOOPS, British Columbia – Kyle Beach and the Spokane Chiefs are still torrid.
Spokane’s left winger notched his 43rd, 44th and 45th goals of the season and added his 27th assist to help guide the Chiefs to a 7-0 romp over the Kamloops Blazers in Western Hockey League action Wednesday.
The Chiefs (36-20-3-1) earned their fifth victory in a row – 11th out of 13 – and stayed in the hunt for second place in the U.S. Division of the Western Conference.
Spokane stayed two points behind Everett, which beat Portland 5-2 to leapfrog past the Winterhawks into second place.
Mitch Wahl, with an assist from Beach, sent the Chiefs off and running against Kamloops (27-29-2-4) with a goal at 4:44 of the first period.
Beach knocked in his first goal at the 15:08 mark of the first period to put Spokane up 2-0. His second goal came at 2:28 in the second period and his final tally capped the scoring at 12:04 in the third.
Wahl scored a pair of goals, while Jared Cowen and Levko Koper each scored once.
Goalie James Reid stopped 26 shots to earn the shutout.
