Outright title now GU’s goal

Men’s college basketball: Gonzaga can secure an outright WCC championship with a win over San Francisco tonight at the McCarthey Athletic Center. The Bulldogs’ 88-51 win over Santa Clara on Thursday clinched at least a share of their 10th straight WCC title.

San Francisco (12-16, 7-6) is playing for something, too. The Dons, who upset Gonzaga 81-77 last month, can clinch the No. 4 seed and a first-round bye in the WCC tournament with a victory. USF and Loyola Marymount, which visits Saint Mary’s tonight, are tied, but the Dons hold the tiebreaker with a season sweep.

“Obviously, we want to keep this thing all to ourselves and not share with anybody, even though we’ve already clinched the No. 1 seed,” Bulldogs coach Mark Few said. “To be honest, I didn’t even think about it (cutting the nets down Thursday night). We’re all kind of focused on trying to get a sweep this weekend.”

Frisco to host FCS title game

College football: The NCAA has chosen the northern Dallas suburb of Frisco to host its Division I Football Championship Subdivision title game for the next three years.

The Southland Conference will host the game at Pizza Hut Park, the home of FC Dallas of Major League Soccer.

The first game in Frisco will be Jan. 7, the result of a newly expanded 20-team championship bracket for the division formerly known as I-AA.

Spokane and Missoula both made bids to host the title game.
