Two Panthers All-State
Two Mead Panthers were named to the 4A All-State first team in their respective high school spring sports in voting compiled by the Tri-City Herald and released Wednesday.
Senior catcher Jake Schrader made the first team in baseball, while midfielder Nick Hamer was first team in boys soccer.
2A All-State: Brady Arnone of Clarkston was named to the baseball first team as an infielder.
• Two Cheney Blackhawks – midfielder Dan Igbinoba and defender Dimitriy Topov – made first team in boys soccer.
Also named to the first team was Deer Park forward Victor Tardelli.
• Two Colville Indians earned first-team honors in softball – pitcher Alison Holst and outfielder Erin Torgerson.
1A All-State: Lakeside of Nine Mile Falls infielder Brenden Herzer made first team in baseball.
2B All-State: The Colfax Bulldogs landed a pair of outfielders on the baseball first team – Tanner Gay and Joe Johnson. Asotin outfielder Jackson Webb also made the first team.
1B All-State: The Colton Wildcats placed two on the baseball first team – infielder Andrew Tietjen and outfielder Chase Druffel. Almira/Coulee-Hartline infielder Chad Carlquist was a first-teamer and ACH’s Stuart Gloyn was named coach of the year.
• Colton pitcher Kelsey Moser was the player of the year in softball. Joing Moser on the first team were three teammates – catcher Mollie Kramer, infielder Mikayla Nygreen and outfielder Megan Grassi. ACH pitcher Sarah Gloyn made the first team and Colton’s Brad Nelson was named coach of the year.
NWL baseball
The Northwest League took Wednesday off but the Spokane Indians are hoping a day’s rest will do nothing to slow them down.
The Indians have won eight of their last 10 games and briefly held the East Division lead before a 4-2 loss to Boise on Tuesday night.
Spokane (9-9) begins a five-game series at West Division-leading Everett (14-5) tonight before returning home for a five-game series against Vancouver that begins on Tuesday.
Skating
The Lilac City Figure Skating Club will host skaters from several Northwest clubs for the Jo Williams Memorial Cup competition at Eagles Ice-A-Rena on Saturday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and is free to spectators. More information: http://lilaccityfsc.org
