Signed The Charlotte Bobcats made a long-term commitment to forward Tyrus Thomas on Friday, coming to terms on a five-year, $40 million contract with the restricted free agent. The deal was struck shortly after the New Jersey Nets presented a front-loaded offer sheet that would have been difficult for Charlotte to match because it’s close to hitting the luxury tax.

• A person familiar with the situation says Kyle Korver is following Carlos Boozer from Utah to Chicago after agreeing to sign with the Bulls. ESPN reported it’s a three-year deal for about $15 million.

Decided The top offensive lineman in the 2010 recruiting class, Seantrel Henderson, told the University of Miami he plans to enroll in early August, according to a person with knowledge of the decision. Miami opens practice Aug. 5, and Henderson is expected to begin workouts with the Hurricanes then. The decision completes an odd week for Henderson, who was released from a letter of intent by Southern California on Tuesday, the latest salvo in the fallout following the Trojans’ NCAA sanctions.

Pleaded Detroit Lions president Tom Lewand pleaded guilty to driving while impaired, two weeks after he was pulled over in Roscommon County, Mich., for driving erratically near a bar. Lewand was sentenced to six months of probation with $870 in fines and costs.

Offered The San Jose Sharks signed Chicago Blackhawks restricted free agent defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson to a four-year, $14 million offer sheet. The Blackhawks have seven days to match the offer. If they choose not to match, they will receive San Jose’s first- and third-round picks in next year’s NHL draft as compensation.

Traded The Anaheim Ducks have traded defenseman Steve Eminger to the New York Rangers for left wing Aaron Voros and minor leaguer Ryan Hillier.

Arrested The son of former NFL coach Dennis Green, Jeremy Green, no longer has a job of NFL analyst on ESPN after being arrested this week on a child pornography charge in Connecticut. Bristol, Conn., police say Green, 38, was picked up Thursday in a Southington hotel and charged with possession of child pornography, possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.
