Ohno due apology
Ohno disgraces USA?
Shouldn’t there be some factual requirements before you print such ranting? (Letters, Feb. 28) I’m not sure what Olympics Donald Stone was watching, but here is the truth.
Ohno didn’t win a single gold medal at the 2010 Olympics (one silver and two bronze). None of his teammates won a gold medal, either, so at no time during these Olympic Games was the American flag raised and the national anthem played together while Ohno was on the medal podium.
I don’t believe it’s a requirement for an American athlete to have his hand over their heart, eyes looking upward, while another country’s anthem is being played. So I guess Ohno should have sung the South Korean or Canadian anthems (they won the races, Mr. Stone), with his hand over his heart. Then, quite possibly (and it’s a stretch) your ranting of which team Ohno “plays” for and his lack of patriotism might have some merit.
Someone owes Apolo Anton Ohno an apology, and that would just happen to be The Spokesman-Review (for printing the letter) and our “true American” Donald Stone (for writing it).
The truth is, Ohno’s only dedicated his entire life to race for and represent the country of which he was born.
Next time, get the truth, then write your letter.
