Suspended Phoenix forward Channing Frye and Indiana’s Danny Granger were suspended one game without pay by the NBA on Tuesday for their part in an altercation Saturday. The league punished Frye for throwing a punch. Granger was penalized for fighting with Frye in the final minute of the third quarter.
•Washington coach Steve Sarkisian said freshman defensive end Andru Pulu is suspended indefinitely for violation of team rules. Pulu played in 11 games as a freshman last season, mostly on special teams but also in a rotation at defensive end.
•NASCAR suspended crewmen William David Keith, former brother-in-law of Jeremy Mayfield, and Matthew Huffstetler for violating its substance abuse policy.
Arrested Top New York Yankees executive Mark Newman was charged with driving under the influence in Tampa, Fla. He reportedly refused to take a blood-alcohol test. He was released several hours later on $500 bail.
Returning Washington women’s basketball coach Tia Jackson will return next season despite the worst three-year run in school history. Washington, which finished 7-11 in the Pac-10, is 12-16 entering Thursday’s conference tournament game against Oregon State. The conference losses are the most the Huskies have had in one season. Jackson’s record at Washington is 33-56.
