Prep roundup: Gonzaga Prep outs LC in 4A softball

Lauren Ramsey’s two-run double highlighted a four-run first inning that got Gonzaga Prep started en route to a 6-4 win over Lewis and Clark at Whitworth on Monday to secure the third and final berth in the District 8 4A softball tournament. LC is out.

Gonzaga Prep plays Mead at 3 p.m. today at Whitworth to decide second and third seeding into regionals this weekend.

Shelby Harbison held LC to three hits through six innings as G-Prep opened a 6-0 lead. Talitha Mckee had a two-run single in the second for the Bullpups.

•District 7 2A: A bases-loaded wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning produced the winning run as West Valley got past Clarkston 2-1 in Colfax to secure the No. 2 seeding into district play.

Clarkston, the No. 3 seed, will entertain No. 6 Cheney today at 4 p.m. WV plays that winner in its first district game on Thursday.

Rachel Meagley pitched a one-hitter, striking out 16 and yielding an unearned run, but WV was forced into extra innings before things deteriorated for the Bantams. Four walks around a strike out and a courtesy runner called out for leaving a base before a pitch set up the winning scenerio for the Eagles.

Baseball

•District 7 1B: Kody Dillon pitched a two-hitter as Almira/Coulee-Hartline shut out Wilbur-Creston 11-0 at University to claim No. 1 seeding to state. Wilbur-Creston goes as No. 2.

Tanner Somday pitched his second win over Northport as Curlew won 8-6 to claim the district’s No. 3 seeding to state. Northport goes as the No. 4 seed.

ACH will play Northport at 10 a.m. Saturday at Medical Lake in the first round of state play. Wilbur-Creston and Curlew play at 1 p.m. The winners play at 4 in the state semifinals.

Golf

•District 7 2A: Tyler Carlson of Clarkston shot 67-69, 8 under par 136, to claim medalist honors at MeadowWood and lead a contingent of 13 boys who qualified for state. Casey Cox of Colfax was second at 144.

The top three girls from a year ago – Kelsey Dutton of Deer Park (158) and Paige Whidbee (165) and Jennifer Sorensen (174) both of Pullman – finished in the same order to lead a field of 12 state qualifiers.

Colville’s boys and girls both claimed team titles.

•District 7 2B/1B boys: Zack Powell of Odessa shot a 150 at Deer Park, three shots better than Alex Hatten of Sprague-Harrington, to lead 18 state qualifiers.

Odessa scored a half-point victory over Colfax for team honors.
