Local roundup: Idaho sweeps San Jose

Idaho hit over .300 for the third time this season and committed only seven errors in a three-game Western Athletic Conference sweep of San Jose State on Monday night in Memorial Gym in Moscow.

Redshirt freshman Allison Walker tied her career high with a team-leading 16 kills, Alicia Milo had 12 kills and Cassie Hamilton 22 digs for the Vandals (8-8, 3-2 WAC), who hit .333 in the match.

• Plagued by its own errors, Eastern Washington lost a nonconference match for the second time this season to Seattle University as the Redhawks swept the Eagles 25-19, 25-20, 25-12 in Cheney.

Senior Allison Reinstein had one of her best performances of the year for Eastern (3-12) with eight kills and no errors on 11 total attempts and hit .727.

• Idaho senior Kelsey Taylor is the WAC player of the week after hiting .439 with 19 kills and only one error on 41 attempts in two wins over Boise State.

Golf

Community Colleges of Spokane was third, Whitworth fifth and North Idaho seventh in the 10-school North Idaho College Invitational men’s tournament that concluded Monday at Avondale Golf Club in Hayden.

Connor McCracken’s 3-under 141 claimed medalist honors and led Lewis-Clark State’s win.

• Rocky Mountain had the medalist, Rachel Hosterman with a 158, and won the eight-school women’s division.

Whitworth was fifth, CC Spokane sixth and NIC eighth.

Women’s soccer

Idaho sophomore Chelsea Small is the Western Athletic Conference offensive player of the week. She had four goals, two of them winners, against Portland State and Hawaii.
