Indians’ Stanford mows down Boise Hawks
BOISE – Tim Stanford fired five shut- out innings to improve to 5-0 on the season and the Spokane Indians defeated the Boise Hawks 5-3 in Northwest League baseball action Tuesday night.
The Indians jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the second inning, as Santiago Chirino blooped an RBI single into right to open the scoring, with Alejandro Selen adding a two-run triple in the frame. Mike Olt launched a solo homer – his eighth of the season – in the third, to make it 4-0. Kevin Torres lining a run-scoring single in the fifth to push the advantage to 5-0.
Stanford scattered seven singles and struck out four in the win. Ben Rowen added a pair of scoreless innings.
The Hawks got back in the game in the eighth inning as Micah Gibbs lined an RBI single to right, with Richard Jones scoring on the play when the throw from the outfield went into the Spokane dugout. Cody Shields delivered a run on a fielder’s choice, but Ryan Rodebaugh coaxed Dustin Harrington to ground into an inning-ending double play to end the threat.
Selen, Chirino, and Torres each had two hits for the Indians.
