Ferris sneaks past Rogers
Chase Haack hit a 3-pointer and Jordan Tonani went 4 of 4 from the free-throw line in overtime as Ferris (21-2) edged Rogers (9-15) 62-61 in the final game of District 8 4A tournament Saturday at University.
The Saxons, who advance to a playoff with the Big 9’s No. 2 seed Tuesday, were led by Taylor Kamitomo’s 22 points and 15 rebounds in eliminating the Pirates from the postseason.
Trailing by four at the half, Rogers fought back to take the lead in the third quarter. They could not hold it, though, as the Saxons tied the game in the fourth to force overtime, eventually taking a five-point lead in the extra period.
Leading the Pirates was Amaujae Daniels with 15 points. Therone Tillett and Deavon Daniels each added 14 points.
Ferris will host Richland Tuesday at 7 p.m., with the winner advancing to the state tournament.
Subregional 2A
West Valley 51, Grandview 44: Brady Bagby tallied 12 points and 12 rebounds, Jordan Gassman added 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting and the Eagles (21-3) advanced to the state tournament as the No. 2 seed from the tournament, beating the Greyhounds (18-2) at Central Washington. Grandview will move on as the No. 4 seed to state.
Clarkston 60, Wapato 55: Drew Adams led three Bantams (21-4) in double figures with 15 points, Trey Sobotta added 12 points and 13 rebounds and Clarkston knocked off the Wolves (17-6), the top seed from Caribou Trail League. The Bantams went on a 20-12 run in the second quarter to take a nine point lead and never trailed in the second half. The Bantams advance to state as the No. 1 seed from the region. Wapato is the No. 3 seed.
Idaho 4A Region I
Sandpoint 51, Lakeland 32: Blaine Shultz and Jackson Olin each notched 13 points, Cole Fuhrman added 11 points and the Bulldogs (10-12) knocked the visiting Hawks (4-17) out of the postseason with the win. Sandpoint opened a 29-8 halftime lead, shooting 42.3 percent from the floor at the break.
Bi-Dstrict 6/7 1B
Chelan 85, Lakeside 73: Michael Amsel went off for 36 points and Aaron McQuaid added 20 points as the Goats defeated the Eagles (16-8) for the district title at Mead. Ryan Gunderson scored 24 points to lead the way for Lakeside, which earned the No. 2 seed to state.
Cashmere 64, Colville 33: Cooper Elliott finished with a game-high 17 points and added eight rebounds as the Bulldogs (14-8) eliminated the Indians (13-12) from the postseason. The Bulldogs built a 34-12 halftime lead and never looked back, advancing to state with the third seed from the tournament.
Intermountain
St. Maries 67, Bonners Ferry 54: Zach Lehman scored eight of his 14 points in the fourth quarter and the visiting Lumberjacks (16-4, 6-2) rallied to defeat the Badgers (3-14, 2-6). The win moved, the Lumberjacks into sole possession of second place.
Priest River 75, Kellogg 60: Eric Holbrook finished with 22 points and 11 assists and Max Salesky chipped in 21 points as the Spartans (15-5, 7-1) clinched the IML title with their win over the host Wildcats (14-5, 5-3).
District 7 2B
Northwest Christian 41, Colfax 35: Reuben Clark tallied 11 of his 13 points in the first half and Kwin Hanson closed things out, scoring six of his 12 in the fourth quarter as the Crusaders (21-1) knocked off the Bulldogs (20-3) to earn the district title at Mt. Spokane. Both teams will advance to the state tournament.
St. George’s 46, Springdale 45: Karl Muelheims and Mark Kenney combined for 21 points and the Dragons (13-11) eliminated the Chargers (10-14) with their win at Mt. Spokane. Uconn Peone and Kendall Peone each had 14 points to lead the Chargers.
District 6 2B
Lake Roosevelt 59, Brewster 32: Ty Egbert went for 21 points, 19 rebounds and five blocks and the Raiders (20-3) outscored the Bears (10-11) 34-11 in the first half, earning the No. 1 seed to state from District 6 in Wenatchee.
District 7 1B
Almira/Coulee-Hartline 58, Wellpinit 44: Thunder Wellhausen tallied a game-high 20 points to go with 10 rebounds and Derek Isaak registered 11 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds as the Warriors (23-0) knocked off the Redskins (20-5) to earn the district championship at Deer Park. ACH will advance as the No. 1 seed to state from the district and Wellpinit , led by Kennedy Seyler’s 12 points, will advance as the No. 2 seed.
Cusick 65, Northport 48: Tyler Edwards poured in 19 points to go with 11 rebounds and the Panthers (18-7) earned the No. 3 seed to state, knocking off the Mustangs (13-11) in Deer Park. Derrick Bluff added 16 points and Louie Bluff 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Panthers.
District 9 1B
Colton 51, Garfield-Palouse 49: Dustin Patchen scored 16 points to go with nine rebounds and four blocks and Josh Straughan added 15 points, hitting three 3-pointers, as the Wildats (15-8) earned their first berth to the state tournament, beating the Vikings (12-12) in Colfax.
Idaho 2A District I-II
Coeur d’Alene Charter 63, Orofino 52: Greg Roman led all scorers with 24 points and the Panthers (16-4) stayed alive in the regional tournament, beating the Maniacs (1-16) at Lapwai.
