CC Spokane men complete regular season with win
Preston Wynne scored 31 points, including a coast-to-coast drive and dunk late in the game, as Community Colleges of Spokane completed its Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges regular season Tuesday with an 88-77 win over visiting Yakima Valley at SCC.
Wynne finished 10 of 19 from the floor and 9 of 10 from the free-throw line. DeAngelo Jones added 22 points for the Sasquatch.
The Sasquatch (19-7, 11-3) finished in second place in the East Division and will open the NWAACC playoffs on March 5 in Kennewick against North No. 3, either Skagit Valley or Whatcom.
Women’s basketball
At SCC, Brittney Newcomb, who scored 23 points, and Mariah Roe combined to hit 4 of 4 free throws in the final 25 seconds as Yakima Valley (19-7, 10-4) posted a 55-48 win over CC Spokane (20-6, 10-4) to complete the NWAACC regular season.
Brooke Randall scored 23 points and Korrie Bourn had 15 points and 11 rebounds for CCS, which has qualified for the March 5-8 NWAACC championships.
Men’s golf
Hank Frame (University High School) shot a final-round 2-under-par 70 to help guide the Washington State Cougars to a fourth-place finish at their Snowman Getaway tournament on Tuesday in Chandler, Ariz.
Frame ended the three-day tourney with a 2-under 214 and finished in a three-way tie for fifth place. The Cougars (869) were 28 strokes behind winner Missouri.
The Idaho Vandals (866) placed second in the team race, 25 shots off the pace. The Gonzaga Bulldogs were 11th in the 14-team event.
Zach Wanderscheid led Idaho with a 2-under 214, tying him with Frame. Peter Gullickson (Lewis and Clark) paced Gonzaga with an 8-over 224.
Medalist Emilio Cuartero (206) led a 1-2-3 finish for Missouri.
